How to Encourage Employees to Get Involved On Social Media

There can be no denying the today social media is ruling the roost. No business – regardless of its type and size – can expect to survive if it ignores the social media.

This apart, companies need encourage their employee to activate participate in the social media. There are a number of creative ways businesses could rally their employees for social media involvement on the company’s behalf.

Ask your employees to get on to Twitter! Ask them to retweet all your corporate tweets. This may not that helpful because they are not accurate enough. Bearing that in mind, consider some creative and specific ideas for your employees to work with when they actively involve in social media channels.

Consider assigning one day a week or fortnight where you allow one employee to take over your corporate Twitter handle. This may be frightening at first but imagine how it would open up trust among the employees.

With a simple and easy-to-follow set of guidelines in place (since you already have a well-conceived social media policy to “protect” you), employees could tweet about their experiences during the day working for your company.

It would give your employees a whole new sense of involvement and a welcome perspective into your company. Remember the fund of good will this step would build with employees and improve employer-employee relations.

Think of employee volunteer events. You may use a short-form video to highlight the splendid work your employees are doing in the community. Capture some of the more poignant or light-hearted moments at these events.

During the summer months, many companies offer summer Friday hours. So, ask employees to share how they’re profitably using their time away from the workplace to recharge and refresh. Consider aggregating all this content on your site or regramming through Instagram.

Ask employees to prepare handwritten notes to customers and take photos. Do not underestimate the power of a handwritten note. Ask a few employees to write one personal note each per week addressed to your customers. Ask them to send the notes, but also ask them to take photos of their notes, blurring/hiding customer names, and post through your social channels.

This way, you also get one-on-one, intimate communication with your customers. Think of other creative and specific ways to encourage your employees to become more active in social media on your company’s behalf.

Your employees are your biggest asset; empower them to be your voice. Your employees can help build your fan base and strengthen your company’s brand in the social media space.
